A well-fitted collar is essential for your dog’s comfort and safety – and it only takes a moment to get it just right. Whether you’ve just received your collar or your dog has grown a little, this guide will show you how to adjust it with ease.

Before You Start: Adjust Before Fitting

Top tip: It’s much easier to adjust the collar when it’s off your dog. Lay it flat on a table or your lap before you begin.

Step-by-Step: Adjusting the Collar

1. Unclip the Collar

Start by unclipping the collar so that it lies flat. This makes it easier to see what you’re doing.

2. Locate the Sliding Adjuster

Find the small plastic slider – this is what allows you to change the size of the collar. It may be near the clip or along one side of the collar.

3. Adjust the Length

  • To tighten the collar: slide the adjuster towards the metal D-Ring. Pass the excess material through the clip so that it lies flat.

  • To loosen the collar: slide the adjuster away from the metal D-Ring. Pass the excess material through the clip so that it lies flat.

Make small adjustments until the collar looks about right for your dog’s neck size.

Fitting the Collar to Your Dog

4. Put It On

Wrap the collar around your dog’s neck and clip it closed.

5. Check the Fit

Use the two-finger rule:
You should be able to comfortably slide two fingers flat between the collar and your dog’s neck. This ensures the collar is snug enough to stay secure but not too tight.

If it feels too tight or too loose, simply unclip the collar and adjust it again using the steps above.

Helpful Tips

  • Check the fit regularly, especially if your dog is still growing or has a thick coat that changes with the seasons.

  • Keep an eye out for signs of wear, particularly around the clip, D-Ring and adjuster.

  • Watch your dog’s body language. If they’re scratching at the collar or seem uncomfortable, the fit might need a tweak.
